Oct 29, 2014

Buy my work Instagram

Here I went to Tenderloin National Park on Oct 29th.
It is not really a park but just the alley in the middle of the rough Tenderloin district and some arty group made the effort to plant trees and kiln and mural and stuff so that poor people around have some relief and community meeting with pizza and guitar and poet and all...

The place is run by the Luggage Store.

There is hours that open the door for the alley, but you never know when the door is opened so you can visit the main gallery on Market or call before visiting.

Please look at the Youtube on their official site to see how they made the place and do the event by using fire pit and stuff. They use it to make pizza! I think they collaborate with artists, poets, singers etc to do the events at night time when people are off from works. The gallery space on the alley was closed at the day I was visiting, but the lady said there is a new gallery on Height street which I missed to go…

Outside of the place there are people hanging around, mostly black people, but there is no dangerous. In front of it there is community place for kids and kids were walking by with a teacher. It was on Octorber 29th and it should be open time, but when I went there the gate was close, and I thought that there was another door to get in and went around circle of the block. And I came back to the same door and it was opened. So I asked the lady (a staff of the luggage store?) to get in and asked permission to take photos. She was watering the glass but I guess because it was working hours no other people came in except a guy who pick up the garbage of the apartment. Or maybe not many people know about the place??, because people Think that "Tenderlooin" is dangerous. But I realized that it is a sensitive place so even I saw people I would not include in the photos.

Treehugger page has detail article of this place.

the luggage store annex(aka 509 Cultural Center)
509 Ellis Street (nr. Leavenworth), San Francisco, CA 94109 USA
Tel. 415. 255-5971

I like the way it more like traditional art than street art and pre mature art.
